Secret coves of Cornwall’s Atlantic coast photography course images

This inaugural day for the Secret coves of Cornwall’s Atlantic Coast workshop went off in rather ‘spectacular’ style, with some extremely mixed weather, to say the least! After a year of fine weather, this workshop was finally faced with some serious rain – it had to happen eventually, and today was the day. Although the forecast suggested the rain would be intermittent, we were hammered with an absolute deluge right when we were in the depths of stunningly beautiful Rocky Valley. Beautiful it may be, but it is also extremely exposed, with very little shelter. Wind and rain tore up the valley, funnelling in from the sea, and although we managed to get some shelter behind a small cliff, we were soaked.
Eventually, as the rain eased, we moved back up the valley into some rather more sheltered woodland where we were able to shoot some lovely woodland stream and ancient ruin images, something that we might not have bothered with in fine weather.
We subsequently headed over to our final destination for the day, the famous fishing cove of Boscastle, where we initially spent more time sheltering from more rain. As the rain finally went off, we ventured out again, hiking up to the high cliffs above the harbour’s narrow, precipitous entrance. Incredibly we were greeted with clearing skies and some fantastic stormy evening sunshine – if a little wind-battered – which allowed for some magnificent coastal landscape photography.
As the sun sank, so we took up a position high above the harbour to shoot what we hoped would be a stunning sunset and dusk. However, as so often happens along the Cornish coast, as the sun sank so a bank of cloud rose up in just the wrong spot, blocking out what would have been the height of sunset, followed by a total quashing of potential dusk colours. So, although that evening sunshine really made up for – and helped us forget – the earlier downpour, the final sunset end to this Secret coves of Cornwall’s Atlantic coast workshop was just a little disappointing.
Despite that, we all managed to do some worthwhile photography, and on this page you’ll see a gallery of some of the images I was able to shoot. I hope you’ll enjoy them.
