A woodland, moorland and coastal photography workshop around Lynmouth
This was a wonderful afternoon and evening of photography, a bespoke 1 to 1 photography workshop around Lynmouth. There are some terrific photo locations around this part of Exmoor National Park, and the aim was to make full use of them in the few hours this workshop was set to last.
We started off in the lovely riverside woodlands at Watersmeet, a couple of miles outside Lynmouth. The aim here was to photograph the woodlands crowding in around the fast-flowing, boulder-strewn East Lyn River. We did get a little side-tracked from this overall goal, for some time homing in on a small part of the river as it flowed over and around a particularly photogenic moss-covered boulder. It was worth it, however, as the photographic results were quite stunning.
Apart from that boulder, we did manage to shoot some parts of the riverside forest too, as well as the lovely waterfall that cascades through the forest, known as Hoar Oak Water. After such a phenomenally dry summer, the waterfall was rather short of water, but in fact it was as beautiful as I’d ever seen it.
Foggy views
Part two of the day was supposed to consist of views from high up on the hills across the Watersmeet valley woods, followed by sunset views in the Valley of Rocks. However, by this time thick fog had rolled in, totally covering the hills, cutting out the views. No point in wasting time here….
Down in the Valley of Rocks, things were a little better: it was below the fog, but the sky was inevitably a leaden grey. No wonderful sunset today! Nevertheless, we did manage to shoot off a few moody, rather surreal images that captured the mood of that foggy evening.
The gallery here shows a few of the images I shot during the day. I hope you’ll like them. If you’d like to set up your own bespoke photography workshop in southwest England don’t hesitate to get in touch!
