Nigel Hicks

Nigel is hugely experienced as an author and photographer for books, covering mainly travel and tourism, wildlife and conservation, and photography.

He has written and provided the photography for over 20 books, has been the principal photographer (though not author) for a huge number of books (including a string of Dorling Kindersley’s Eyewitness and Top 10 travel guides), and has been contributing photographer to untold numbers of books.

Most of his book work has been with British publishers, though he has worked with a number overseas. He has also launched his own publishing company, Aquaterra Publishing, which is starting to produce a few of his books.

Published in March 2020, this is the third book in A Portrait of a County series, and is a photographic journey through the varied county of Somerset, plus the adjoining city of Bristol.

The first chapter is a text-led overview of the region, while the remaining five chapters are photo essays on different areas, each in turn focussing on the Mendip Hills, the Levels, Exmoor, the South and Southwest, and finally on the urban centres of Bristol and Bath.
