This Wild Hartland coast photography workshop really caught the rugged mood of this remote region. On this autumn day, strong sunlight was combined with fresh northerly winds blowing cold air straight in off the Atlantic. It felt bracing, but the strong, low light picked out magnificently some wonderful coastal landscape features. These included rippling patterns in Welcombe Mouth’s wet sand at low tide, along with neighbouring rock pools, as well as surf rolling in across rocks at high tide, seen at Hartland Quay.
The light even cooperated well enough for things to go quite cloudy at just the right moment, allowing us soft lighting for the white water of Welcombe Mouth’s lovely waterfall, as well as the jagged details in the cove’s cliffs.
Although evening sunlight put some wonderfully warm colours across the rocks and harbour wall at Hartland Quay, incoming cloud put paid to us being able to see the sunset. It also put an end to any plans to continue into the night with some night sky photography – with no light pollution this is a wonderful place for night skies.
Not that anyone was complaining! The weather through the whole day had been stunning, right up until the evening’s final daylight moments, making for a great day for this Wild Hartland coast photography workshop.
Above is a gallery of some of the images I shot during the Wild Hartland coast photography course. I hope you’ll enjoy them. Thanks for visiting this page.
