I attended one of Nigel’s workshops on 10th October 2026 at two spectacular coastal locations, Welcome Mouth and Hartland Quay. Having taken up photography relatively recently I was very keen to learn as much as possible from an expert about how I can improve. During the day Nigel certainly provided plenty of really good tips and advice in a way that was hands on and participative. It was very interesting and great fun and I’m looking forward to putting some of the techniques I’ve learned into practice in the coming weeks and months.
My first photography workshop and I was little out of my comfort zone, I need not have worried! Nigel made us all feel at ease really quickly while we waited for on a late arrival.
Nigel took us to the first location so we could get down to some landscape photography. The weather was not great but this did not dampen Nigel’s enthusiasm and made it easy for us to get on and start shooting!
Some photo’s of a sea landscape and of a waterfall and we headed back to Boscastle for a hike up to the top of the cliff edge with Nigel leading the charge!
I had a fantastic day with a great group and learned a lot from Nigel and would highly recommend his workshop to anyone with an interest in pushing their photography skills!
I managed to get some great photo’s (for me) and am looking forward to booking up again!
I had a truly fabulous workshop day in Dartmoor with Nigel. We began the morning in Ivy Woods, exploring along the beautiful River Erme, where I captured some wonderful images thanks to Nigel’s excellent tuition (and the generous loan of his tripod, as I’d forgotten mine!).
In the afternoon, we climbed up Sheepstor, and the effort was more than rewarded with spectacular views. The sunshine and bracing wind made for challenging photographic conditions, and I came away having learned so much — feeling both inspired and motivated to keep improving.
Thank you, Nigel, for such an enjoyable and inspiring day. I’m already looking forward to joining another adventure next year!
Very glad I signed up for this course, getting the chance to take the camera to Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton during the evening and late at night is not something I can do often! Thanks to Nigel’s excellent tuition, planning and ‘ordering’ wonderful weather conditions, I learnt a lot about camera settings in low light and darkness despite the difficulties of actually seeing the controls on the camera. Following the course, it was a bonus getting Nigel’s feedback about a couple of my images.
This low light workshop was the second workshop of Nigel’s that I attended. It was a full course, but Nigel regularly got around to participants and gave advice. Thoroughly recommended, I learnt how to take much better photos in low lighting conditions.
I was priveleged to go on the Dartmoor in Autumn workshop in October, being delighted with the whole day. This included a lot of useful teaching from Nigel mixed with more than ample opportunity to put our new learning into practice whilst Nigel made sure each individual in our group (10 people) was happy with their photography. This was especially helpful for me as I’d brilliantly not brought a tripod as per the instructions;
thankfully Nigel had a spare which he lent me and also spent time showing me how to use it properly. In addition he discovered that my camera had somehow been set to an unhelpful setting which wasn’t helping my photos and which I would have had no clue about otherwuse
My photography skills have shot up since the course and I now feel I can do my camera, which had been bought for me as a present; real justice and have confidently been taking better photos with it since the course
Thankyou ! 🙂
What a brilliant day! Well the weather helped, but a great variety of low light and moving water photography in a beautiful valley in Ivybridge then a top of the world feeling on a spectacular Dartmoor tor. Lovely balance of group encouragement and tips followed by time spent with each one, giving just the right guidance needed for a range of experience in the group. Nigel’s leadership was at all times well paced, with good humour drawing the group together, we started as strangers with a common interest, we left with new found friendships.
Spent a half-day session with Nigel. Very informative and easy to listen to. As mentioned before, very attentive and offers lots of knowledge to help you gain a better understanding of how to use your camera.
I attended Nigel’s Spring 2023 course at the beautiful RHS Rosemoor Gardens and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nigel Provided the perfect balance of technical guidance and support whilst out in the gardens taking our own pictures. We were agroup of mixed experience and expertise, however Nigel brought something for all. I am very pleased the day and with the photographs I obtained.
I attended the Exmoor in spring course late May 2023. We all met at Tarr Steps and took many photos down thru the woods on the riverbank. Moved onto the Moors after then Watersmeet, finishing up at sunset in the Valley of Rocks. It was a memorable day, the weather helped. Always interesting to hear Nigel’s explanations of techniques. Very useful indeed.
