Beautiful Dorset is a photographic book that takes the reader on a tour through the English county of Dorset in a series of photo essays that each concentrate on a particular region of the county.
Places covered range from the town of Bournemouth at the hub of Dorset’s only major urban zone, through to the world famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The former is the county’s most popular visitor attraction, a result of its enormously long sandy beach, while the Jurassic Coast encompasses most of Dorset’s coastline, ranging from spectacularly rugged cliffs (including the Durdle Door rock arch) through to sandy beaches and attractive harbours.
Other coastal locations include the beach resorts and harbours of Weymouth and Lyme Regis, as well as the nearly circular Lulworth Cove.
Inland the book showcases some stunning gardens, such as those at Sherborne Castle, Mapperton House, and Athelhampton House, plus some of the many prehistoric hill fort remains that litter Dorset’s countryside. These include such places as Maiden Castle, Badbury Rings and Hambledon Hill.
