See what people have had to say about Nigel’s photography workshops
If you’d like to find out how much past participants enjoyed our photography workshops then read the following photography course reviews.
I always appreciate Nigel’s courses. We spend time in places which could otherwise be quickly passed over, being guided to see the possibilities of images which the amateur would not notice. The professional input, both words and sample images, is always helpful and the advice given is straightforward and easily applied. Ian P.
I found this workshop very helpful and inspiring. Nigel took care to ensure that everyone, at all levels of experience, felt valued and supported. The day was thoughtfully structured and we covered a lot of ground (literally!) before the sun finally set on us in the Valley of Rocks. Although I thought I was fairly experienced in landscape photography, I learnt several invaluable new things during the day. Nigel has a relaxed and friendly style which set the tone for us all. A great day! Steve J.
I recently attended a course run by Nigel Hicks entitled Dartmoor in Spring. This was very enjoyable despite the challenges thrown at us by the very wet weather. Originally planned as a day course this had to change to early evening due to the constant rain during the day. However, Nigel kept me fully informed of the changes and in the end I think we had a better time as we could photograph the river with an overcast sky and benefit from the golden hour. Prior to taking photographs we had an instructive seminar on how to set up one’s camera for landscape photography. As a result, I have explored the My Menu on my Canon and added Mirror Lock Up as one of the options that can be easily selected. (Perhaps I should have remembered where it was buried in the sub-menus on the day!!) I have no hesitation in recommending one of Nigel’s courses to boost your photographic expertise. Robin W.
I had a really enjoyable time learning new things and just being totally absorbed in photographing the beautiful garden. The workshop was really well run and I thought it was set at a good level; not too technical but with lots of information in a relaxed and informal manner. When we wanted to get more technical you were on hand to discuss things further. I also really liked the way you gave each of us individual time and showed us your approach to the particular image we were trying to capture. That really gave me more insight into what makes good composition and an interesting image. Mandy G.
I found this course to be a great refresher in landscape photography and enabled me to learn and try some new techniques with Nigel’s expert guidance. The style and format is very relaxed and informal in the outdoors, focused entirely on the purpose to learn about landscape photography. I was really impressed by Nigel’s style and delivery and will be following this with some of his other courses. Neil G.
Thank you so much for a brilliant ‘Dartmoor in Spring’ photography course day, and for the stunning location chosen by you. I was really impressed with the balance of information you imparted and the practical application, it was spot on. I have definitely gained much more confidence in actually using my camera settings, and gained (and using) some new composition skills. The atmosphere of the learning day was relaxed and fun but I felt it was also geared directly to the learning needs of the individuals in the group. The pre-course notes you sent me were an unexpected bonus. Highly recommended photography workshop for those wanting to enjoy learning. Kit W.
Thanks for a great day. I learnt a lot and the format of the day was a good mix of instruction, practice and discussion. It was also really good to spend the day with a group of like-minded people and to exchange experiences. The setting for the day was also excellent. I look forward to the next course. JC.
Nigel Hicks is an inspiring tutor who deals with the technical but combines it with the pictorial in order to enhance the end result, namely, fine photographs. Whether you know a lot or a little about photography you’ll gain much from his careful, kindly and critical tuition. Prof Brian K.
