Advertising agency commissions photo shoot. Nov 2006.

RH Advertising, a leading advertising agency in southwest England, has commissioned Nigel to do the photography for the 2007 brochures for Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts, two of southwest Britain's biggest visitor attractions, both intimately involved in international conservation programmes. Mostly animal portrait photography, this represents a great opportunity for a bit of 'wildlife in captivity' photography. Watch this space for some sample images.

Weekend autumn landscape photography course a great success. Nov 2006.

Held over the weekend of 3-5th November, this year's autumn landscape photography course went off extremely well, with all 10 participants apparently greatly enjoying the photography. With stunningly clear, blue skies, we could hardly have asked for better weather. Much of the time was spent ranging across Dartmoor National Park, from Becky Falls in the east to Brent Tor in the west, along with a number of tors in between. For sample images, click here. The next course will be run 11-13th May 2007. For details of this course, click here.

Nigel's recent commissioned shoot in Peru was completed at the end of October. A terrific trip, the shoot took in the northern area of the country, from the Amazon forests around Iquitos, across the northern stretch of the Andes, across to the deserts, pre-Inca ruins and surfing beaches of the west coast. Stunning scenery, great photography - for some sample images, click here.

A new South American photoshoot commissioned. Sept 2006.

Nigel Hicks will soon be heading off to South America once more on a commissioned photoshoot, this time to Peru. A four-week shoot, this trip will encompass the Amazon areas of northern Peru around Iquitos, as well as the deserts and Andean mountains of the country's far north. As well as great landscapes, the shoot will take in such great Inca ruins as Chan Chan, just outside the city of Trujillo, and the huge museum to Inca culture just outside Chiclayo. Nigel will head off near the end of September and will be back in Britain in late October.

Commissioned photoshoot close to home just finished.  Sept 2006.

A photoshoot commissioned by a large publisher in Nigel Hicks's home county of Devon has just been completed. Ranging across the moors, farmland, beaches, cliffs and resorts of this beautiful county, Nigel was able to take full advantage of this summer's glorious weather to produce a great range of images that will be used in an upcoming Devon guide book.

A new book to be published soon! July 2006.

Nigel Hicks has just finished working on his next book, and is due for publication by British publisher David and Charles in October 2006. Entitled 'The Digital SLR Bible', the book cuts through the nightmare of technology and jargon associated with choosing and using a digital SLR, as well as how to handle the images on a computer, from downloading, through optimisation in Photoshop to storage and printing. A must for anyone struggling with the switch from film to pixel! Watch this space for more publication news.

Sample images will be posted shortly.
