Nigel has been a professional photographer for over 20 years, specialising mainly in travel, landscape, nature and architectural photography.
Although he originally trained as a biologist (obtaining a PhD in the process), photography was a passion from childhood, eventually leading him to decide that he’d rather work to capture the beauty of our natural world through a camera lens than study it through a microscope!
For the first few years of his photographic career he lived in Hong Kong, but for most of the time he has been based in his home area of Devon, southwest England.
Nigel shoots for National Geographic Creative, and is a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP), the highest qualification in what is one of the UK’s leading professional photography bodies.
Although based in Britain, his work has taken him all over the world, commissioned shoots leading him to photograph for tourism, ecotourism and conservation projects in places ranging from the rainforests of Malaysia and the Philippines to the volcanic landscapes of Iceland, from the savannah of Kenya to the steppe and glaciers of Patagonia.
Closer to home, Nigel runs his own photography workshops, consisting of a series of one-day workshops in southwest England, plus overseas photo tours.
Nigel’s latest book is Journey through the Philippines, a highly illustrated trip through some of that country’s loveliest visitor areas, published by Oxford-based John Beaufoy Publishing.
Wild Southwest, about the landscapes and wildlife of southwest England, was the first book Nigel published himself, a publication that has been selling well in southwest England.
Upcoming now are two new books: Beautiful Devon, another book about southwest England that Nigel is publishing himself; plus Wild Philippines, about the Philippines’ wildlife and natural environment, to be published once again by John Beaufoy Publishing.
